MA Housing Programs (UPDATES)

Massachusetts State Outline With Silhouette of Several Housing Buildings

There are several federal programs that will stop phasing out after April 15, 2022. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP), The Subsidized Housing Emergency Rental Assistance (SHERA), and the ERAP-Enhanced HomeBASE programs will stop processing applications after this date. Those in need of housing assistance can still file an application for the Residential Assistance for Families in Transition (RAFT) program.

On April 1, 2022, Governor Baker signed a supplemental budget which will extend eviction protections. This extension will now last until March 31, 2023. This budget also provides an additional $100 million to support landlords and tenants through the RAFT program

There are additional programs for eviction prevention which are still operational, such as the Tenancy Preservation Program (TPP), housing counseling, legal aid and mediation services. You can reach out to your local Housing Consumer Education Center (HCEC) or dial 2-1-1 for information on available housing resources.
